As a young man, my father suffered from dyspepsia, and finding no relief in medicine, he turned to Christian Science. He was healed and from that time on enjoyed his food. This experience caused him to want to know more about God and man as taught in Christian Science, and so he began to study the Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Later, on different occasions, both my sister and I experienced the symptoms of so-called children's diseases, but these were quickly destroyed by our applying the truths of this Science.
When I was a young woman and on my way to a college football game, I was involved in an automobile accident in which the car I was driving overturned, and I suffered a severely cut and crushed hand. A long-distance call was made to a Christian Science practitioner, who began prayerful work for me. A neighborhood doctor who bandaged the hand said that if infection set in, the arm would have to be amputated. Infection did set in, but as the result of Christian Science treatment, I was healed and back in an office within three months, using a typewriter every day.
During the so-called depression, I was led to answer a blind advertisement for a job. I prayed that God, divine Mind, would direct me and realized that as an individual expression of Mind, I need not follow the stereotyped form of application, but could express orginality. The company that had placed the advertisement in the newspaper received three hundred applications in response, and although I could not meet the requirements expressed in their advertisement because of lack of experience, a job was created for me, and I was employed.
