HOW ARE WE CLAD?

From the October 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The color and formation of some growing hyacinths were so symbolical of divine perfection that a Christian Scientist felt impelled to ponder on the raiment of Spirit. She saw the pleasant symbols of the earth as pointers to the loveliness of all God's handiwork, reminding her of the substance of Spirit and the glory of God's spiritual creation, including man in His image and likeness.

It is the Father's plan and purpose to clothe man as He does the lily, but the Christly garment of righteousness, unlike mere outward apparel, does not originate in matter. Only when we allow Truth to penetrate our thinking, do we shed our materiality and gain spirituality. To be clad in spiritual truth is to be transformed.

In the light of the spiritual understanding which Christian Science gives us, we find that man is immortal, clad forever in the beauty of holiness. As we learn how to look out upon the world from a spiritual basis, we begin to recognize all true form and color as emanations of the divine Mind. The loveliness of color presented by the glories of nature is a symbol of the radiance of Mind. Beauty symbolizes the divine hues of Spirit, which we perceive mentally when thought is united to God. When we lay aside human misconceptions, we are ready to see and understand that which is spiritual and eternal.
