Poems

Thought upward

From the October 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God loves us tenderly. His mighty power
Is ever present. We are safe in Him.
But just to think these thoughts each day, each hour,
Is not enough.

Our knowledge is too dim,
At times, to heal the sick with instant word.
We do not always quickly bring the proof
That God is Love.

I need to realize
More clearly that those things which I have heard
Are intimately real, truly so.
With hands upraised in trust, with opened eyes,
I turn to God. With childlike mind and heart,
With sureness, I must really feel and know
That Love and I have never been apart.
There lies upon me a supreme demand:
To lift thought upward till I understand.
