DO WE LOVE?

From the October 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Divine Love, God, is the basis of the healing practice of Christian Science. To bring forth this healing, one needs to reflect the Love that knows no sin, no hate, even the Love that knows nothing but good. Every thought, word, and deed must find its inspiration and goodness in divine Love, if we are to fulfill the mission of Christian Science and carry out its holy purpose.

The consistent expression of purity, selflessness, and all the other qualities of good manifests Love's presence in our hearts and helps us to experience the blessings of Love. Indeed there is no substitute in the healing work of Christian Science for the expression in daily life of the divine attributes of infinite Love. Therefore the question, "Do we love?" is affirmatively answered only as we find our motives and aims based on divine Love.

In "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 250), "Love cannot be a mere abstraction, or goodness without activity and power." Christian Scientists learn the joy of reflecting divine Love instead of letting it remain a mere theory. The wider becomes one's comprehension of Love, the more vivid grows his expression of it. And the more one expresses Love, the more he feels its reality and power.
