"UNDERSTANDING ... A WELLSPRING OF LIFE"

From the September 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the Bible we are admonished to get understanding, and this statement from Proverbs tells us why (16:22): "Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it." One of the meanings of "wellspring" is "a source of continual supply." When we see, as Christian Science teaches, that a sense of lack is only a false belief, it is clear that spiritual understanding is our real need.

Through the study of Science, we learn that God is the all-knowing Mind and that divine Mind is ever imparting spiritual understanding to the real man, His beloved child. As one starts the day with the assurance that nothing can separate him from divine Mind, he has a feeling of confidence and joy. As one thinks of his future experience and realizes that the understanding he needs with which to carry on with a sense of freedom and joy is ever present, he can face the future with calm assurance and expectation of continual good.

On the basis that the only real Mind is God, infinite good, Spirit, Christian Science teaches one to reject the ignorant beliefs and false qualities coincident with a supposed life in matter. This Science instructs us to keep turning to the spiritual facts that God is the only creator and that man is His perfect, spiritual image and likeness.
