THE VITALITY OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST

From the September 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love. Without this, the letter is but the dead body of Science,—pulseless, cold, inanimate." Thus writes Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 113).

The Church of Christ, Scientist, is founded upon divine Principle, as illustrated in Christ Jesus' teachings of Truth and his demonstrations of Love in healing the sick and casting out sin. Christ, Truth, is its Science. Changeless, invariable Love is its vitality.

Since the foundation of Church is Love, the structure must at all points be completely aligned with Love. The demonstration of this calls for the loving work of the members of the Church. Of Peter's clear discernment of the Christ, the Son of God, Jesus said (Matt. 16:17, 18): "Flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father. . . . And I say . . . unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church."
