THE WARMTH OF DIVINE LOVE DESTROYS THE FOG OF SENSE

From the September 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Anyone living in an area where dense fogs are common has doubtless been confronted many times with the sudden appearance of grotesque objects which are really familiar buildings, trees, telephone poles, and so on. They seem to be frightening objects only because the fog has made them appear so. When the warm rays of the sun dispel the fog, the disquieting aspects of the objects disappear.

The fog of material thinking likewise distorts our experiences and presents pictures of lack, loneliness, sickness, sin, and sorrow. If one believes these pictures to be real, he may seem to become sick, downhearted, weary, or fearful. But he should always remember that the warmth of divine Love, God, is an ever-present spiritual fact which will destroy the fog of material sense.

It is a truism that one sees what he believes. Mrs. Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook (p. 86): "Mortal mind sees what it believes as certainly as it believes what it sees. It feels, hears, and sees its own thoughts." How important, then, that we refuse to allow our mental home to become cluttered with beliefs of indecision, apathy, selfishness, and mental laziness, all of which tend to befog our pathway.
