HAPPY NEW YEAR!

From the January 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The above salutation will be heard many times during the next few days in differing tongues and under varying conditions.

The word "happy" came originally from "hap," meaning chance. However, Christian Science divests happiness of any association with chance and proves it to be secure in God. To identify good with luck or chance is to entertain a wholly false sense of its source and its nature.

Good—every bit of it—has its origin in God, for God is good, not merely a good God but good itself in all its completeness, purity, and permanence. The infinite nature of God, good, makes evil an impossibility, because if that which is infinite had an opposite, it would not be infinite, all.
