"THE GRAND NECESSITY OF EXISTENCE"

From the January 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The great miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and the grand necessity of existence is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man." So writes Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 560).

These words open to the student of Christian Science the pathway of spiritual attainment; they unfold the exalted purpose of life. They guide to the demonstration of divine Love, leading thought to an understanding "of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man." They point to the vital significance of this understanding in the progressive experience of the student and to the reason for the frequent references which Christ Jesus made to this kingdom during his earthly ministry.

How may we best follow in the footsteps of Christ Jesus? How best assimilate his teachings? How may we learn to love God and man as the Master did and so gain and exercise the spontaneous healing power of which he gave such a wonderful example? The answer lies in the study of the Scriptures, together with the faithful and inspired perception and application of the revelation and the rules that Mrs. Eddy has given to the world in her writings. In this way the student will find for himself the kingdom of heaven within and so bless humanity.
