DIVINE THEOLOGY AND SCIENTIFIC HEALING

From the January 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The theology of Christian Science is aflame with the spirit of the ever-present healing Christ. It is the eternal evidence of Immanuel, or "God with us" —a divine influx of the Holy Spirit, forever unfolding itself as God's law of harmony "in earth, as it is in heaven" (Matt. 6:10). Mrs. Eddy presented her discovery of Christian Science as a sacred religion, which would satisfy the deep yearning of mankind for a divine theology.

Christian Science meets the demand of the times for a religion that heals the sick. Through its theology flows a continuous stream of divine, healing power. To demonstrate this power consistently, one must cultivate a deep reverence for and understanding of its theological import.

In her various writings our Leader clearly explains the healing theology of Christian Science. She writes of the spiritual significance of the divine trinity, of atonement, baptism, communion, sacrament, repentance, fasting, and salvation in their relationship to divine healing. In her book "Miscellaneous Writings," in answer to the question, "Does the theology of Christian Science aid its healing?" she says (p. 58), "Without its theology there is no mental science, no order that proceeds from God." And later in the paragraph she adds, "Having no true sense of the healing theology of Mind, you can neither understand nor demonstrate its Science, and will practise your belief of it in the name of Truth."
