TO FORGET SCIENTIFICALLY

From the January 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To forget error by blotting it out of thought through the realization of the facts pertaining to spiritual existence is in accord with the teachings of Christian Science. This Science reveals that disease, sin, and all other discords are illusions of material sense and not creations of God, divine Love. Error, in any form it may assume, is without cause, law, power, or foundation in Truth. Sin and suffering have no dominion over man, for man exists as the reflection of God's goodness and perfection.

When one has clearly recognized the nothingness of discord and has affirmed understanding the spiritual truths concerning man's perfection and wholeness as God's idea, he can safely leave the result with Christ, Truth, which is ever present to heal, adjust, and harmonize. The constant contemplation of a discordant situation tends to delay healing. One should banish the evidence of discord from his thought, much as he would evict an unwelcome trespasser from his home, and keep his thought filled with the affirmative truth that God is Spirit and that man is His perfect, spiritual reflection.

Mrs. Eddy states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp. 352, 353), "The only difference between the healing of sin and the healing of sickness is, that sin must be uncovered before it can be destroyed, and the moral sense be aroused to reject the sense of error; while sickness must be covered with the veil of harmony, and the consciousness be allowed to rejoice in the sense that it has nothing to mourn over, but something to forget."
