GOD'S LAW OF RESTORATION

From the January 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How many thoughtful men and women yearn for a way to reclaim lost opportunities, to restore the emptiness of wasted years, to regain and turn to good account unimproved and bitter moments, which seem forever lost in the unreturning past! To them, Christian Science brings the joyous message of God's eternal law of restoration. Mrs. Eddy points out in Science and Health (p. 390), "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony."

There is no life so empty, no hope so dim, no state of mind or body so wretched, that an understanding of God's law of perfection cannot bring to recognition in the human heart Love's perfect idea, right where each blighted bud of earthly hope now seems to be. Breathing the omnipotence of God, divine Love, upon every wasted hour, upon every misspent opportunity, upon the anguish of every aching heart, God's restorative law reveals man's limitless opportunities for good.

From the standpoint of human thought and reason, the word "restoration" implies the returning again of that which has been lost. Divine Science reveals the impossibility of good's disappearing, of truth's vanishing, or of God's withdrawing for a time His tender care for man. Restoration is coincident in human experience with revelation, or the unfoldment of spiritual good. God's goodness is seen on earth to the degree that His Word is understood and practiced.
