I did not consciously seek Christian Science, but I was invited to attend a service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. It was an entirely new experience for me, but it must have been what I had been looking for, because for about twenty-one years I have never attended any other church.
Christian Science has proved completely satisfying from a purely religious standpoint, and as I have applied its teachings such human discords as lack, unemployment, inharmonious relations, and illnesses have been healed. Whereas prior to my study I spent much time in bed with some ailment, I have not done so since then.
The smoking and social drinking habits left me very easily through a simple statement of truth voiced by an experienced Christian Scientist. I had tried many times to stop smoking, but the temptation always returned. At lunch one day I explained to my friend that this temptation was too much for me. She replied, "There is no temptation in Mind, God." After work that day I started to light up as usual but did not seem able to put the cigarette into my mouth, and I have never smoked since. Very shortly after this, social drinking was also overcome.
