INTRODUCING CHRISTIAN SCIENCE TO OTHERS

From the February 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus commanded his followers just before his ascension (Mark 16:15), "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." And his disciples of today are conscious of the fact that this directive applies to them.

What is the gospel that we should preach, and how are we to spread it today? The gospel of Christ is the divine Science taught and practiced by the Master. The spiritual significance of all that he said and did is to a large extent unrecorded. Even his most spiritually minded followers were apparently not able to grasp and record the fullness of his message. That is why he promised another Comforter, which he called the Holy Ghost, or "the Spirit of truth." At the Last Supper he said to them (John 16:12): "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth." The Comforter which he promised is here today and the mission of the Church of Christ, Scientist, is to present it to the world.

What is the gospel which we should preach? Is it not the law of God, which is applicable to every phase of daily living? The Christ message is the truth that makes free because it asserts what is actual and denounces and destroys what is not actual.
