THE DIVINE RIGHT OF SELF-GOVERNMENT

From the February 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The statement that "the pen is mightier than the sword" is familiar to a great many people and expresses an acknowledgment of the often unsuspected power and effectiveness of the truth. It is apparent to all that the truth of anything, from arithmetic to matters of international concern, exposes mistakes and errors of judgment; but it is not so apparent that the truth which is of God is an active power that establishes freedom and blesses all.

However, there is a belief that the truth sometimes hurts, that the truth can result in both good and evil, happiness and chagrin. This estimate of the nature of truth has been proved to be incorrect. Through Mrs. Eddy's tremendous discovery of Christian Science the complete, spiritual nature of Truth has been revealed for all to understand and use.

Truth is God, infinite good; therefore all that is true is good, and only that which is good can be true. Evil is untrue, impossible in the face of Truth; as Truth is understood, evil is invariably exposed and destroyed. Truth is actively aware of its own pure nature; it is incapable of adulteration or obfuscation through human will or ignorance.
