"Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him" (Matt. 6:8). It was in the depression years that these words were proved to be true in my experience. I found myself stranded far from my home with two small children to support and my income suddenly cut off.
Just previous to this, I had been taking a refresher course in art with the thought that I might again enter this profession. When I told my art teacher that I would be leaving the course to find work, she advised me not to try to find a job as an artist because there were many with recent experience who were unable to find work. I refused to accept this advice and based my prayerful work in Christian Science on the parable of the talents (Matt. 25: 14-29). By means of this parable, Jesus taught that we must recognize and appreciate our God-bestowed talents and prepare to use them.
My sister and her family were living in a small town in the northern part of the state in which we were living, and they lovingly took us into their home. I felt that they would be unable to keep us very long and that my problem had to be worked out as quickly as possible.
