Over a period of thirty years I have had many physical healings, for which I am grateful, through the study and application of Christian Science. Business difficulties have been solved. Problems of human relationships have been resolved by my knowing that the real man is God's own image and likeness and by my seeing and loving the true selfhood of the individual concerned. My character has been improved. My greatest blessing, however, has been learning to know God and man's relationship to Him as idea.
When my daughter was born, the doctor said that her tonsils should be removed. I enrolled her in the Christian Science Sunday School when she was two and one half years old, but I allowed her to have periodic medical examinations until after I became an earnest student of Christian Science. The report was always the same: the tonsils should be removed. When she was about nine years of age, and I was still allowing her to be medically examined periodically, the same doctor examined her twice, exclaiming, "What a wonderful operation!" She told him she had not had an operation. The truths of God and man which we had been affirming over the years had resulted in this healing.
Once my daughter manifested the symptoms of scarlet fever after she had been with a friend who later became ill with it. I sat by her bedside, and we studied the answer to the question, "What is man?" beginning on page 475 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. One sentence in it reads, "Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique." The next time we looked, we noted that all the evidence of the disease had completely disappeared.
