The most cherished and indelible memory of my childhood is my mother's healing through Christian Science. She had been ill four years. Doctors, medicine, nurses, and household help were constant necessities.
About the time she realized she would not recover under medical treatment, my mother heard of a Christian Science practitioner, who lived in a city some distance away. My father gave his consent to her visiting the practitioner, and slowly she prepared for what was, in her weakened condition, a difficult journey. Three days after she left us, a radiant person, whom I scarcely recognized as my mother, returned. She had been healed in three treatments.
The practitioner wisely insisted that she buy Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and instructed her how to study the Lesson-Sermons from the Bible and Science and Health which are outlined in the Quarterly. These books became her constant companions. Her whole appearance changed, and I marveled at how rosy and happy my mother had become. Our family ills disappeared as Mother prayerfully applied her new understanding. Callers at our home would exclaim, "How peaceful it is here!"
