Before becoming interested in Christian Science many years ago, I had been confined to my bed for the greater part of the previous year with a serious hip disease and an organic trouble for which the physicians had said an operation would be necessary.
At this time I jokingly remarked to my husband that I believed I would try Christian Science, although I knew nothing about it, and was acquainted with only one person, a neighbor, who was interested in it. To my surprise my husband seemed eager for me to try anything rather than have an operation.
We asked the neighbor to visit us; she gave me a copy of the Journal, telling me I could select a practitioner from those listed therein. I telephoned the one nearest me, and she said she would pray for me. She asked me to buy and start reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
