I shall always be grateful and indebted...

From the February 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I shall always be grateful and indebted to a friend who many years ago said to me, "You are ready for Christian Science." This was the first time I had ever heard these words. The sound of them was refreshing and gave me hope, and I was receptive to Science from the beginning.

For many years I had been afraid to go to sleep at night. Darkness brought on great fear. But this fear left me on the day I began the study of Christian Science. At nine o'clock that evening I stopped reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to rest for a moment and to ponder the many statements that I had been reading in the book throughout the day. I realized I had a sense of peace and relaxation I had never known before.

In a little while I fell off into a natural sleep and did not awaken until noon the following day. The fear of darkness was completely gone, and it has not returned.
