"The divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the humanity of Jesus." In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy reveals in this brief statement on page 25 what there was in Jesus' nature that enabled him to bless his fellowmen immeasurably. Indeed, as the student of Christian Science contemplates the quality of divinity associated with the Master, he cannot fail to remember the many times when it was evidenced in humaneness.
Perhaps the student may think of the time when a funeral procession was coming out of the city of Nain. He may picture Jesus halting it and compassionately restoring to a widow her only son, alive. Or he may recall the time when a multitude of people had followed Jesus to a desert place. So engrossed were they in drinking deeply of the inspired words of the Teacher, they had forgotten all about their need of food. When the disciples called this to the attention of Jesus, his Christly sympathy was aroused. Almost immediately the few small loaves and fishes at hand were multiplied, and all were fed abundantly.
Even the "woman taken in adultery" (John 8:3), who was brought to him by the scribes and Pharisees, was dealt with kindly and, we may assume, healed. Too, the student may remember Jesus' tender provision for his mother when he knew he must leave her. He committed her to the care of a loving disciple, saying (John 19: 27), "Behold thy mother!"
