On a motor trip through the mountains of northern California I came upon a stretch of highway construction. The cars had to drive in a single line for over a mile, jogging along over rough ground and moving in a zigzag fashion. Ahead of the line of cars was a state pickup truck with a large sign in back which read, "Follow the Leader Closely."
This simple experience was an object lesson to me as a student of Christian Science. I realized more clearly the importance and necessity of following our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in the way she provided, without a single deviation from her teaching and instructions.
In "Retrospection and Introspection," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 85), "Guard yourselves against the subtly hidden suggestion that the Son of man will be glorified, or humanity benefited, by any deviation from the order prescribed by supernal grace." The student of Christian Science does well who wisely separates himself from those who countenance a departure from the pure rules of Science or from the movement our Leader established.
