"Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light" (I Pet. 2:9). These majestic words from the New Testament define the position of a Christian Scientist in the world today. They call attention to the privilege which students of Christian Science have of playing an active part in bringing liberation from mortality to mankind.
Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 227): "Discerning the rights of man, we cannot fail to foresee the doom of all oppression. Slavery is not the legitimate state of man. God made man free. Paul said, 'I was free born.' All men should be free. 'Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.' Love and Truth make free, but evil and error lead into captivity."
In the proportion that we acknowledge that all power belongs to God and that there is no power apart from Him, we bear witness to Him in our freedom from sickness, sin, and death. This freedom is divine Mind's gift to man, and through the teachings of Christian Science we learn how to gain and maintain it.
