Spiritually speaking, a mountain is an exalted state of thought. Jesus often went to a mountain to pray. He lifted his thought into the realm of the real. He claimed his oneness with God's perfection and prayed for the multitude who were clamoring for help. Many records are given of the wonderful works he performed after his mountain experiences.
A student of Christian Science finds that communion with God, deep searching for spiritual understanding, enables him to discern the true concept of man and the universe. He then finds that mortal beliefs, which apparently are so real to many, are utterly unreal, for they have vanished before the light of Truth. In Isaiah we read of God (25:7), "He will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations."
It was in an exalted state of thought that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was ready to receive the revelation of Truth and to give to the world the spiritual facts of being. She discerned Christian Science, in which the allness of Spirit and the consequent nothingness of matter are clearly set forth. In her teachings are given the rules whereby we can prove the powerlessness of any material belief that claims to cover up, or veil, the spiritual idea of man, who is God's image and likeness.
