LIFE, GOD, FOREVER WITH US

From the April 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The prophet tells us that if we call, the Lord will answer. Then we read (Isa. 58:9), "Thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am." Earlier in this chapter the prophet had denounced the unwisdom of self-seeking and oppression. He had pointed out the one path to salvation through righteous living. Thus the standard was raised that opened the way to the reception of the Christ, prophesied in the seventh chapter of Isaiah, whose name was to be called "Immanuel."

Of the Christ, Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p.34), "If Christ, Truth, has come to us in demonstration, no other commemoration is requisite, for demonstration is Immanuel, or God with us; and if a friend be with us, why need we memorials of that friend?" Jesus' resurrection proved that Life, God, is eternally with man. Then man, God's reflection, is eternally present with Life and with his fellowman. Life, God, is eternally saying to man, "Here I am." Here Life is, and here friends are forever together as the eternal reflection of Life, God. No separation, then, is possible.

Of the demonstration of the Christ in human experience, our Leader further writes in the textbook (p.316): "The Christ-idea, or Christ-man, rose higher to human view because of the crucifixion, and thus proved that Truth was the master of death. Christ presents the indestructible man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs. Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth."
