"As far as to Bethany"

Luke 24:50

From the April 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

He led them out, he who had overcome
All earthly claims to fetter and destroy.
Resistless, deathless Truth he voiced to men;
Tender compassion touching all their woes
To joyful wholeness. Comforted, restored,
He led them out, from mist-veiled senses' dream,
Tenacious-seeming bonds that stultify,
Into the radiant bliss of Love's All-power.

His followers—then and now—Truth still leads forth
Even as far as Bethany itself,
Where death has seemed to vaunt its final claim.
Yet even there we may, our thought aligned
With omnipresent Life, that Word supreme,
Behold identity attuned to Soul
Perfect in Love, invincible in deed;
And see reality established there.

Shall we not follow Christ to Bethany?
