Testimonies of Healing

I should like to tell of how I was lifted...

From the April 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I should like to tell of how I was lifted out of a state of poverty, acute unhappiness, and hopelessness into one of confidence, gratitude, joy, and abundant supply.

When my marriage broke up, I was fortunate in being able to make my home with my mother, because I had a baby daughter, and I was expecting a second child. When the latter was stillborn, the loss seemed to be more than I could bear. However, after this first reaction, I reasoned that since I was still alive there must be work for me to do, and these words from Psalm 118 came strongly to me (verse 17): "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." That message propelled me a long way in the right direction.

At first I had to learn to accept gratefully supply offered to me through human kindness. Having earned my own living from the age of eighteen and thus having been independent prior to my marriage, I was irked by false pride, which took some overcoming. This was achieved as I realized that true, spiritual supply comes from God, good, the infinite, divine substance, and so I learned to give genuine thanks for every small offering, such as other people's cast-off clothing, because I had no money to buy such things for myself or for my daughter.
