For the privilege of being reared in a home where both parents were Christian Scientists and for attendance at a Christian Science Sunday School until the age of twenty, I am deeply grateful.
On page 3 of her work "Unity of Good," Mrs. Eddy, referring to God, says, "He has mercy upon us, and guides every event of our careers." This knowledge provided security and guidance during a number of years following graduation from college when I was a schoolteacher in a large city some distance from my home. The understanding of God's power gained through Christian Science has also effected many healings, among which were those of ivy poisoning, so-called children's diseases, mumps, influenza, headaches, and bronchial pneumonia.
However, the healing I should like to express gratitude for at this time was that of conditions centering around the births of our two daughters. Although I was brought up to acknowledge man's perfection as a child of God, I had allowed myself to accept certain unpleasant traits of character as a part of my personality. Among these were the beliefs of being high-strung, sensitive, and emotional. I looked forward to the arrival of our first child, but indulged in some personality idiosyncrasies during my pregnancy. I felt confident; but the confidence was in my ability to bear a child, not in God's ability to provide all good.
