I am very grateful for protection through Christian Science on a business trip. Prior to starting, I talked to a Christian Science practitioner about business trips and asked for his prayerful support of my efforts to bring a better sense of harmony into the activities. Upon arrival at the airport, I learned that mechanical difficulties had delayed my flight approximately two hours. While I tried unsuccessfully to obtain accommodations on other airlines, the delay mounted to over five hours.
I soon realized that I had accepted a sense of resentment over the circumstances; so I turned to prayer to resolve this inharmony. As I did so, I was reminded of a question on page 399 of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which asks, "If Mind is the only actor, how can mechanism be automatic?" I then realized that neither mechanism nor mortal mind has power to overrule the operation of divine Mind and thereby hamper the action of Mind's idea.
Although the first flight of the trip was without undue incident, the feeling persisted for the need of continued prayer. A connecting flight was delayed approximately one half hour to receive transfer passengers. As it started, evidence of mechanical malfunction appeared. I again turned to the quotation from page 399 of the textbook and remembered from the same page the statement that "a mill at work or the action of a water-wheel is but a derivative from, and continuation of, the primitive mortal mind." I declared persistently that divine Mind overrules any sense of inaction, reaction, overaction, or wrong action which mortal mind would seek to impose and establishes harmonious, right action. I continued to pray in this manner and to correct each new erroneous suggestion presented during the time the plane circled, which was about six hours.
