Truly Christian Science is the promised Comforter! I had known the Lord's Prayer as a child, and I looked to the Bible at an early age for comfort because of an inharmonious condition in our home. Several years later I was led to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. At the end of the first chapter, which is on Prayer, I found the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, which I memorized and then found myself saying over and over again, listening to its message. Now I realize that my thought was being prepared to relinquish the mistaken view of God and man. I began to understand God as the creator of man after I had studied the interpretation of the first sentences of the prayer (p. 16):
"Our Father which art in heaven,
Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Adorable One."
I learned too that God is infinite, all-embracing Love, that man coexists with God, and that he is therefore never alone. All sense of loneliness, separation, and criticism of my parents disappeared, and peace and an awareness of God's ever-present love replaced them. I could truly say with gladness of heart, "We are also his offspring" (Acts 17:28). In all the years since, I have never felt alone.
