For seventeen years' attendance in a...

From the September 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For seventeen years' attendance in a Christian Science Sunday School, I am very grateful. During this period I was blessed with excellent health, satisfying activities and friendships, happy family relationships, and better than average academic grades. The four children in our family were wonderfully protected from so called children's diseases and received quick healings the few times these errors appeared.

During my three years of service in the Air Force, I experienced much protection and deliverance through relying completely on Christian Science. In preflight school I was confined with the measles; but with the help of a Christian Science Wartime Worker, I was able to avoid all medication during my ten days in the hospital and was able to rejoin my class and make up the work I had missed. After being commissioned as a navigator, I was able to use Christian Science for protection while on combat missions and while experiencing air raids on our base. I wish to acknowledge my gratitude for the loving help of my family and a practitioner during my tour overseas. Their good thoughts helped me immeasurably.

At one point during my period at college, it became necessary for me to have a parttime job in order to support my family. I planned to get in touch with any and all potential employers by canvassing the business houses downtown. After making two unsuccessful calls, I decided to visit a Christian Science Reading Room nearby. There I read the Lesson Sermon, provided in the Quarterly, and prayed for guidance, holding the thought that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 494). Spiritually refreshed, I was led to go to a large department store four blocks away and to ignore businesses along the way. Locating the store manager, I discovered that he very much needed a part-time worker with my experience. Our mutual needs were filled through my employment, which lasted until I was graduated.
