The measuring Cup

From the September 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We pray for growth in grace. And what is grace?
A special boon saved for a favored few?
No, grace but measures what we know and take
Of that impartial, universal Love
Which calls, "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come."

Grace is the cup we carry to the fount;
We have whatever good our cup can hold.
But Love's outpouring knows no stint nor dole;
All that is scant is our capacity.
For more of good, we need a larger cup.

And how enlarge our cup? By gratefully
Acknowledging that Love provides all good,
Steadfastly dwelling in Love's tender care,
And sharing Love's abundance with mankind.
So vast this cup! So sure this growth in grace!
