GOOD BUSINESS ACTIVITY

From the September 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

People in business frequently wonder how best to conduct themselves in order to be more effective, successful, and happy in serving their fellowmen. In every activity they will invariably find the highest way in studying and following the example of Christ Jesus, our Way shower. Jesus was in a good business, and the only real business, for he was always about his Father's business. He started early, was active in that business, and never retired from it.

When Jesus was twelve years old, his mother and Joseph missed him, and three days later they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors. To her question (Luke 2:48), "Why hast thou thus dealt with us?" he replied, "How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?"

The question may arise, "Exactly what was the Father's business that Jesus was about?" It was to let God's will be done in his life, to abide continually by God's laws, and to express the qualities of God in his earthly mission. Such activity is rewarding and can be followed by anyone who strives to be about the Father's business.
