When I began the study of Christian Science we were living in the mountains of Mexico, where my husband was employed by a lumber company. I had been ill with typhoid fever just before our baby was born; and though a kind and conscientious doctor had done all that he could to help me, I did not regain strength and found it very difficult to do the housework and care for the baby.
My sister came to visit us at that time, and one day she asked me why I did not turn to Christian Science for help. I knew something about the healings brought about through Science because my mother and sister had been students of this religion for some years, and I had witnessed proofs of its efficacy. In fact, I too had been healed several times through my mother's efforts. But I had not been sufficiently interested to take time to study the textbook by our Leader to find out how the healings had come about, though I loved the Bible and read it very often.
Medicines were discarded, and my sister helped me through prayer during her visit. She had given me a copy of the textbook, and I began to study the Lesson sermons, provided in the Quarterly. As I earnestly prayed to be shown the way, strength returned, and complete healing followed.
