After becoming interested in Christian Science...

From the April 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

After becoming interested in Christian Science, I could not bring myself to apply for membership in a branch church because of the fear that in a case of broken bones I should not be able to rely completely on God for the healing.

It was at this time that I decided to join fraternal organization, and during one of the ceremonies an associate standing next to me jumped, and his elbow accidentally hit the bridge of my nose.

Upon my retiring from the center of the auditorium, a physician was summoned to examine my nose. After observing my physical condition, he urged my associates to rush me to a hospital where a physician would be on duty with the necessary equipment to care for me, because he thought the nose was too badly shattered to be cared for there. A close relative was summoned for me, and I asked him to call a Christian Science practitioner for help and also to call my wife to let her know what had happened.
