Although I was reared in Christian Science and, along with my mother and father and brother, had many healings over the years through its application, it was not until I was married and had children of my own that I began to appreciate fully its importance and to recognize my responsibility to it and the need to demonstrate it daily in my affairs.
Our two boys have had quick healings of colds and fever through reliance on God alone. At one time our younger boy had a growth on his neck about which my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, expressed much fear. I steadfastly held to the truth that "a spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 463). Although the growth ceased to hamper the child's head movements, it remained, and I became discouraged and fearful of not being able to prove Christian Science.
Then, through prayer, it became apparent to me that as long as I was looking to matter every day to see an improvement in a material condition I could not prove Christian Science, for this religion teaches that man is spiritual and perfect. I could not blame my husband's thought, for the doubt was in my own thinking.
