My gratitude for the efficacy of the healing power of prayer in Christian Science is boundless. Prior to accepting this Science, my thought reached out for a religion that would satisfy a seeking similar to that expressed by the Psalmist in these words (Ps. 27:4): "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple." Satisfaction has been found in the unfoldment of the spiritual interpretation of the Bible through the study and application of the truth given to the world in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
When I found Christian Science, I needed very much to understand this statement on page 71 of Science and Health: "Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense." Lack of a practical education, of employment, and of the simple necessities of life was beautifully met. Then came the healing of severe headaches, experienced since childhood. These gradually diminished until they completely disappeared. Periodic pains also ceased to occur.
I was married and had two children of school age before awakening to the need of church membership and some measure of service to God for His bountiful blessings. Much healing and regeneration have resulted from participation in church activities. One specific instance was a healing of a severe cold. I had been blessed with freedom from yearly colds through reliance on Christian Science for a number of years. Nevertheless, one Wednesday found me with a cold, and it seemed as if it would be impossible for me to attend the testimony meeting at church. I mentioned this on the telephone to someone, and one of the statements she made was, "Take care of yourself."
