I became interested in Christian Science about forty years ago. During the years since then I have been blessed and healed many times. I should like to tell of two experiences, which took place several years apart but which are related because each showed the instant power of God to heal when we absolutely accept the truth we are declaring as the present fact in the situation.
During the economic depression of the thirties I was left with a young son and no means of support. Through the kindness of a Christian Science friend I was able to pay a month's rent on a large house where I could rent out four rooms. This, together with some child-care work which I did, enabled us to subsist.
A time came when the rooms were all vacant. There was no child-care work, the rent was nearly due, and there was no food in the house. I had prayed the best I knew, as we are taught in Christian Science, but the picture was black indeed, and I was harassed by the immediacy of the need. I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner, pouring out my distress. "I know that God is Love," I said, "and that He fills all space and is filling my rooms right now, and there can be no lack. But my rooms still seem empty, and my son is hungry. What shall I do?"
