Mrs. Eddy gave mankind a priceless gift through her discovery of Christian Science, and I have had the privilege of knowing something of this truth since early childhood. Daily I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus and for Mrs. Eddy, who demonstrated what she taught and in the textbook, Science and Health, gave us the key to unlock the Scriptures. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a Christian Science Society, for class instruction, and for the activities of all the branch churches of our movement.
At the time of her marriage my mother was in ill health, and her condition came to the notice of a neighbor, a Christian Scientist, who recommended that Mother seek the services of a Christian Science practitioner. When this was done, a healing resulted; but Mother did not continue to study the religion at this time.
In early childhood I began to have trouble with my left ear. Fearful, my mother called a physician, who diagnosed mastoiditis and stated that an operation must be immediately performed.
