Are We Watching?

From the November 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How vital is the word "watch" in the daily work a Christian Scientist does for himself, his community, his country, and his church!

Christ Jesus charged his disciples, "What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."Mark 13:37; Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, had this command of the Master's placed on the cover of the Christian Science Sentinel.

Our beloved Leader uses the word "pray" in conjunction with "watch." In the Manual of The Mother Church, under the heading "Guidance of Members," she gives us "A Rule for Motives and Acts." In this By-Law she states, "The members of this Church should daily watch and pray to be delivered from all evil, from prophesying, judging, condemning, counseling, influencing or being influenced erroneously."Man., Art VIII, Sect. 1; In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy are the Tenets of The Mother Church, to which all members subscribe. The sixth tenet reads, "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure."Science and Health, p. 497;
