The Joy of Church Work

How often does one stop to consider how much real satisfaction and joy may be gained through work in a Church of Christ, Scientist? Many specific benefits may be realized, not only by the church but by the worker personally through his participation in the harmonious activities of the church.

When she was asked to take the chairmanship of the music committee in her church, a Christian Scientist had a most illuminating experience. She had always believed that the work of this committee demanded a great deal of time and also that there was difficulty in finding musicians to substitute when needed. The evening on which she was asked to chair this committee, she said emphatically, "No!" However, since it seemed impossible to obtain anyone to do this important work, she later consented to fill the office. The day following this decision she regretted what she called her foolishness in acting so rashly. Just getting a committee together seemed to loom as a mountain.

Almost immediately she realized what she was doing! How could she benefit the church or herself by this beclouded thinking? Sitting down at her desk, she took the Christian Science Hymnal and thumbed through it until she came to a hymn which proved to be just what she needed. The first verse reads:
