COMING TO OUR SENSES

From the November 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Only our outward senses touch the griefs,
mark the sad sequences
of suffering and sin and death.
They watch the wars,
and hear the sound of weeping;
they smell corruption,
taste the bitter cup.

Yet this is not the truth—
Yet it is not.

For in God's consciousness we rest secure,
aware, perceptive only of His pure,
His sinless, deathless, spiritual creation,
His perfect image, man.

God is the fount of hearing,
God is the source of sight;
The inward ear is harmony,
The inward eye is light.

So let us look only at God's clear views,
hear but His concords,
come to our senses,
claim our birthright now.
For when we grasp this glory as we must,
and in reality confide our trust,
all bitterness will turn to sweet,
and God's great world
appear in its perfection,
blessed and beautiful.
