Attendance in the Sunday School

From the November 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Sunday School of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, does much to further the healing and redeeming mission of Christian Science in the community. Mrs. Eddy was divinely guided by God to provide for the spiritual education of young people up to the age of twenty years. In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy are specific By-Laws relating to the Sunday School procedure and the subjects of the lessons; also in the Manual the order of exercises is outlined.

Sunday School teachers often find that aside from the willingness to become a teacher and to provide time for necessary preparation for the actual teaching of a class, there is need for diligent and consecrated work to protect all the aspects of the Sunday School. Perhaps one of the more important challenges one has to meet at one time or another is the problem of irregular attendance.

If during the week a teacher has thoroughly prepared himself for a class and if he goes to the Sunday School eager to teach and to share his unfoldment only to find empty chairs, what should he do? He should seek prayerfully the absolute truth that will heal the situation. May he not find the truth in the definition of "Church" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy?
