When we turn unreservedly to God in our hour of need, we are always blessed with a satisfying and an enduring solution. This fact has been proved many times in my experience.
During my adolescent years I had been troubled by a physical problem which had caused me much mental anguish and had resulted in many undesirable traits of character, including criticism of others and self-consciousness. When I left high school several years ago without completing all the required courses, I was astonished to find I was rejected on medical grounds from the military draft which was then obligatory in the country in which I was living. With no clear plans, I attempted several kinds of activity, but not one was satisfactory. I became unhappy and fearful of the future and was tempted to become apathetic.
For a number of years I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School, and I had learned something of the basic truths of Christian Science. However, I had been content to be a Christian Scientist in name only, actually using the truths of our religion only sporadically. The unsatisfactory situation in which I found myself made me suddenly aware that I had arrived at the crossroads: I must either become a sincere and consistent student of my religion or take another path.
