To Correct a False Rumor

From the November 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It has come to the attention of this Board that a rumor is being circulated that no further contributions are needed for the recently established "Church Center Building Fund" and that ample money is already on hand to complete the project. May we assure you that this rumor is completely false.

We are reminded of a similar attempt to thwart a good work that had begun to go forward. On January 2, 1904, while the extension of The Mother Church was being built, this editorial appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel (later reprinted in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany by Mrs. Eddy, p. 14):

"A few days ago we received a letter from a friend in another city, saying that he had just been informed—and his informant claimed to have good authority for the statement—that the entire amount required to complete The Mother Church building fund had been paid in; consequently further payments or subscriptions were not desired.
