Modern Times Should Be Progressive

From the May 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Is it possible to be modern and yet be holy? Multitudes are looking for practical proofs of Christianity's effectiveness in our present times. It is frequently asked, Can the Bible, compiled during predominantly pastoral times and with far fewer people involved, have any meaningful application in today's jet society, geared to tremendous population expansion and breathtaking technological advancement? Would the holy men of old have been holy if they had lived in our society?

Christian Science answers Yes, holiness does become each and every one of us, as much today as in ancient times. Not only are spiritually-discerning individuals keeping abreast of the times, but they are actually thinkers and doers in advance of the times. Countless individuals, through their study and application of Christian Science, are proving by their better health and morals that harmony is the law of God, good, operating in mankind's behalf in all ways and under all conditions.

How does one go about adapting oneself to a modern society while at the same time maintaining one's spiritual equilibrium? A brief look at the meaning of the word "modern" should prove helpful. It is derived from the Latin adverb modo, signifying, "just now."
