In her "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy says, "That individual is the best healer who asserts himself the least, and thus becomes a transparency for the divine Mind, who is the only physician; the divine Mind is the scientific healer."Mis., p. 59; This is the standpoint of every dedicated worker who engages in the practice of Christian Science.
But what about the standpoint of a patient, including the seasoned worker who occasionally finds it necessary to ask a practitioner for assistance? His point of view should not really be different. The respective standpoints of practitioner and patient are like two sides of the same coin, each complementing the other.
Several years ago a friend of mine, a longtime Christian Scientist, had an experience that serves to illustrate the correct standpoint. For approximately three months she had been touring Europe with several close relatives who were not Christian Scientists. To please them, she had followed an itinerary of their choosing. They kept her occupied from early morning until late evening.
