Unchangeable God

From the May 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Psalmist sang, "The Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."Ps. 100:5; But do we suffer from a feeling that God, who formerly blessed us so abundantly, has now forgotten us or that He sent or permitted our misfortunes? Then let us be comforted through the assurance of Christian Science that God is the unvarying Principle of the universe, unchangeable Love, constantly and eternally bestowing good on all.

To believe in a divine source or cause that is intermittently good and evil is to believe in an intermittent good and evil effect in human experience. Such is the belief, unfortunately, of mankind, who for centuries have remained in bondage to a false theological doctrine of a changeable Deity.

Today, however, men can relinquish these unrewarding theories and turn for enlightenment and healing to God as explained in Christian Science. In "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy states, "For 'who is so great a God as our God!' unchangeable, all-wise, all-just, all-merciful; the ever-loving, the ever-living Life, Truth, Love.Mis., p. 124; Only on the basis of this true idea of God can happiness and health be demonstrated, for as in mathematics, where fixed result follows from fixed rules, so in the Science of being, the great First Cause, unchanging good, produces invariable wellbeing.
