A copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was given to me nearly thirty years ago by one who had been a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School and who later became my husband. I had always desired to know how to pray. While reading the first chapter, on Prayer, I knew that at last this longing was being fulfilled. No words can express my gratitude for this wonderful and eternal gift of communion with divine Love, infinite intelligence.
Some years ago I had to undertake heavy responsibilities connected with finance and business. Because there was no person to lean on, it was essential to turn completely to God for support and guidance. And I based my thinking on the following two Bible statements referring to Him: "He performeth the thing that is appointed for me" (Job 23: 14); "Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold" (Job 36:24). Once the starting point was clear, I began to work with three highly qualified professional executives. Decisions had to be lifted away from person, and the way unfolded to let them know that the ideas being presented were the result of prayer, communion with divine Principle, God. When the project was completed, it was acknowledged that only a higher concept of law could have finalized the work so satisfactorily and on such a generous basis.
Recently I visited a country to which few visitors are permitted entry and where religious communication with the outside world is restricted. Among the many fears expressed to me before my departure was the reminder that should I become ill I would not be able to make contact with, or have help from, an outside source and would be entirely subject to the laws of that country.
