The Historical Sketch from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy states that the Church of Christ, Scientist, was organized and designed "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." Man, p. 17; Because of the dedicated service of the many church members following the establishment of the church, this reinstatement is taking place. Christian Science is becoming recognized throughout the world as a religion whose adherents heal solely by spiritual means and in the manner of the Master, Christ Jesus.
By faithfully demonstrating the teachings of Christian Science, many individuals are experiencing liberation from sickness and evil of every sort. But how soon all men will receive these benefits depends in large part upon the continued unselfish and consecrated humanitarian and metaphysical service of church members today. Therefore, from time to time, each member needs to reconsider what our Leader writes in the Manual, "God requires our whole heart, and He supplies within the wide channels of The Mother Church dutiful and sufficient occupation for all its members." Joyfully serving in some church activity, whenever it is humanly possible, always brings practical and spiritual rewards to the individual as well as progress for the church. Heartfelt gratitude for the many blessings received from the study of Christian Science should prompt the member to serve in these activities and to keep on serving as the years progress. In Jesus' parable of the talents, the faithful servants received this commendation: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things."
